#7-11 Ancients' Anguish, Scarab Sages Retirement and Concordance Faction Launch

Last night we completed #7-11 Ancients' Anguish. Is this who you played? Did anyone go on slow progression?

Dave - Ebo, 14340-7.
Bruce - Arnie, 8566-19
Keith - Narthax, 1420-15
Randy - Anarchy, 14370-4
Steve - Karorgrarbag, 14366-3
David - Zaldon, 18517-1
Alan - Rassem, 18524-2

The Scarab Sages faction is coming to an end and will retire at the end of Season 9 (August 2018). You can read about it here: http://paizo.com/paizo/blog/v5748dyo5lkbq?MidSeason-Faction-Updates

That said, there are 4 more adventures in the story line which the group has not played.

#7-04: The Ironbound Schism (Tier 7-11) - Bruce and I have both played this one. It can be run on Tuesday if either Bruce or I use a replay credit. (I am willing if he wants to run it.)

#8-17: Refugees of the Weary Sky (Tier 7-11) - None of us have played. Does Dave want to run this one too?

#9-04: The Unseen Inclusion (Tier 1-5) - I have played this one and I am willing to run this for the group.

#9-07: Salvation of the Sages (Tier 7-11) - Bruce and I have played this one. This is the capstone adventure for the faction. It is complex and dangerous. I am willing to take a shot at running this for you guys if Bruce is willing to spend a replay star. The caveat is that it is complex and dangerous and will likely run 2 or 3 of our sessions to play.

The announcement about the new Concordance faction can be found here: http://paizo.com/paizo/blog/v5748dyo5lkbr?Introducing-the-Concordance-Faction

We have not played any of the listed adventures featuring the Concordance yet (other than the special). I plan to run the special as Core so that we can play/replay this on Tuesday and I can get credit toward my 5th GM star.

Invisibility and sneak attacks

My rogue is slightly less broken.  Apparently you only get sneak dice on the first attack when you break invisibility.

Dragon's Demand lewt

5283 even.  Of course, "each."

What Are We Planning Starting Next Week?

I have wrapped up all of my outstanding adventures and it would be nice if someone else could run for a bit.

There has been talk that Dave is ready to run the next book of Reign of Winter and Bruce is ready to run the next book of Strange Aeons. I am guessing that each will take 3 to 6 sessions to complete. There is also some talk of Bruce running Starfinder.

What do folks want to do?

We have two more weeks before Christmas. I am planning to bring cookies on the 19th. I am not sure if you are planning a game on the 26th but  I will not be able to play that day.

Fun Fund Fund Raising

Our Fun Fund is almost empty again. I just added $50 to the fund and used it to picked up 12 tier 7-11 PFS scenarios on the Black Friday sale, the next 2 season 9 PFS scenarios and the next Starfinder scenario. Donations to the fund would be appreciated.

Next Week - Wrapping up PFS Stuff

The plan for next week is to complete The Dragon's Demand. We are in the middle of the last encounter. Assuming that you live through the fight there may be some additional wrap-up. Everyone should have a character for this and they should be 6th level.

If time permits, we will also finish #8-22 Wrath of the Fleshwarped Queen. There is only one encounter left in this one as well. It is a tier 1-5 and you were playing the 4-5 sub-tier. I believe that there were only 4 player present when we started this (Bruce (alchemist), David (pregen cleric), Alan (barbarian) and Dave (arcanist)). As such, there are not enough encounters remaining for additional folks to join the scenario and receive credit. Folks not playing can take off early or just hang out until we are done.

Monday, November 20, 2017

Reminder - Playing high tier PFS tomorrow

I will be running #6-20 Returned to the Sky tomorrow. It is tier 7-11 adventure.

Alan will be absent. Not sure about anyone else.

List of eligible characters:

Bruce has: Jack (9), Jerry (9), Jennifred Hollybright (9), Izzy (11), Goonter Von Reckoning (7) and Clarise (8)

Dave has: Fantasticleez (8), Helmut von Ironclang (7), Sven Skaarsgaard (10), Li Hua (10), Ebo (8) and Takka Takka (7)

David has: Zaldon (10), Al goBoom (9), Tamara (7), Penny (8), Placekeeper (7) and Al-Ma-Resh (7)

Kelly has: Bellis (8) and Dominic (10)

Steve has: Max Plano (11), Karorgrarbag (8) and Reaper (7)

Randy has: Ser Roland Rittern (10), Anarchy Gordon (8) and his 14370-8 character which I do not have a firm name or class listed (maybe an arcanist).

Any 7th level pregen is also valid.

Next Tuesday, 11/21/17

Due to lack of attendance last week we did not finish the Dragon's Demand. Due to a late start, we began a scenario but did not finish it.

Alan will not be in attendance either 11/21 or 11/28. So I will not plan to finish either adventure until he returns. That means on Tuesday, 12/5/17 we will be completing both the module Dragon's Demand (Everyone) and scenario 8-22 Wrath of the Fleshwarped Queen (Bruce, Dave, David and Alan). I can finish them in either order depending on who shows up and when.

There has been a request for some higher level play. With that in mind, I will run #6-20 Returned to the Sky next week. It is tier 7-11. The way we play it is likely to span over 2 weeks. If not, we can figure out something else to play the following week.

Dave also has #7-11 Ancients' Anguish that he was "assigned" to run.

For those keeping score, here is the number of XP folks need to get at least one character to 12th level:
  • Keith (Sir Kalten and Stagen Wolfrunner): 0
  • Bruce (Otis): 0
  • Dave (Scrawny Jax): 0
  • David (Zaldon): 4
  • Kelly (Dominic): 4
  • Alan (Gizer): 2
  • Randy (Ser Roland): 6
  • Steve (Max Plano): 1

Reminder: No Game This Week, 10/31/2017

Due to Halloween, we will not be gaming this week.

Tuesday, October 17, 2017

Tonight

Who are we expecting tonight?

I know Alan will not be there. How about Randy? Is he better or still sick? Is Steve back from vacation? How is Kelly doing?

If we are only missing Alan (and he can forward his character) we can continue Dragon's Demand. If more are missing we will need to do something else.

Starfinder - What's our commitment?

We need to discuss our interest in running/playing Starfinder.

As of now we have 5 SFS scenarios and a quest pack. We also have the first 2 installments of the adventure path. Two of the scenarios and the quests have been played by Dave, Steve and Bruce. The special was played by Dave, Steve, Bruce and Keith. The quests are re-playable and the remaining 2 unplayed scenarios are good, level-wise, for starting characters.

I have not read any of the adventure material (yet) nor have I done more than a cursory look through the rule book. I have not even made a character (I was hoping for Hero Lab but it is unclear when that will be available). I know that Dave and Bruce have made guys and I expect that Steve has as well.

Is everyone interested in playing? Is anyone especially eager to run? As I have other irons in the fire, I might be willing but it might be a while before I am ready to do so.

Lore Warden Changes

This is of possible interest to Dave.

New Starfinder Miniatures Kickstarter

There is a new Starfinder miniatures Kickstarter, and (because I am an idiot) I am backing it at the Adventure pledge level. Looks to be 60+ resin minis for $180. That is like $3 each. Additional minis can be added in the $5 to $10 range.

You can check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/325468910/starfinder-masterclass-miniatures

Pathfinder - Little Known Rule (at least to me)

Found this today when researching nonlethal damage.

From the Core Rulebook, p. 179 - Minimum Damage: If penalties reduce the damage result to less than 1, a hit still deals 1 point of nonlethal damage (see page 191).

Welcome to Starfinder Boon

There is also a Welcome to Starfinder boon. It may only be applied to your -701 character. You can find it here: http://paizo.com/include/WelcomeToStarfinder.zip

Welcome to Pathfinder Boon

It may be practically too late for most of us (and actually too late for some) but there is a free boon for your -1 PFS character. Check it out at http://paizo.com/include/WelcomeToPathfinder.zip

For planning purposes, who are we expecting this week?

Does Any Want a Physical Copy of Leagues of Cthulhu?

I received my backer survey for the Ubiquity, Leagues of Cthulhu book today. I am getting one copy but I have the option to add on additional copies for 17 pounds plus shipping (works out to about to be approximately $ 25). The book is hardcover in the  6.69" x 9.61" (170 mm x 244 mm) format. The book is 96 pages and funded at a full color interior.

I have until Friday to respond with my final order. The PDF file is ready and they will be sending out links soon. The physical book is being sent to the printer and is expected in October.

Next Week

As we did not finish the adventure last week, we will continue and complete the tier 3-5 Pathfinder adventure we started. If we finish that early, I will continue with running The Dragon's Demand.

Gen Con Character/Adventure Tracking

For those of you who played Paizo stuff at Gen Con, I need some info.

Which characters did you guys play for PFS #9-00 Assault on Absalom? I know who you played for #8-99 as I was there.

Did all of your Starfinder credits go to your -1 characters? Do they have names and starting factions? I am starting a new tracking sheet for Starfinder.

Tuesday - Now with More Cat Wrangling

OK, it is post Gen Con Tuesday. We need to figure out what we are playing tonight. Who plans to attend this evening?

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Pre_GenCon tuesday game

I will be running PFS next tuesday.

It will be a 1-5 level game.

Please plan accordingly.

I repeat, Keith will not be running HEX, I will be running a 1-5 PFS.

,bruce

p.s. hint, it takes place in the great white north.

Ubiquity Artifact - Mask of Dykannon

What do you guys think? Is this straight forward enough?

Mask of Dykannon
Artifact 2
Catalysts Required: 2
Creation Difficulty: 4

The shape of this golden mask shifts fluidly when worn. The mask fastens itself to the wearer, gently hugging their head and face. Once donned, only the wearer may remove the artifact. The mask was originally created and worn by the sorcerer, Dykannon, for his own use. After his recent death, a portion of Dykannon’s life force clings to this artifact.

Through whispered advice and admonitions, the artifact imparts and reinforces knowledge for the wearer. While wearing the mask, it grants the wearer a +2 bonus to one of the following skills each turn: Academics: Occult, Alchemy, Brawl, Focus, Linguistics, Martial Arts, Melee, Sorcery: Theurgy or Survival.

Additionally, the mask is encoded with the knowledge required to cast the ritual, Shield of Dykannon. This counts as an additional memorized ritual above the caster’s limit and can be cast regardless of the character’s Max Ritual Rank limit.

Enchantment: Ritual: Shield of Dykannon (+4 Enchantments), Mentor 1 (+2 Enchantments)
Drawback: Activation Requirement: Magical Aptitude Talent (-2 Enchantments)

Shield of Dykannon

Rank 4
Tradition: Theurgy
Research Difficulty: 7

This ritual creates a shimmering, translucent mystical shield that can protect the caster. While active, the Shield of Dykannon grants the benefit of +6 Passive Defense.  This protection applies to all attacks made against the target, including touch attacks and those attacks which cannot normally be seen. The bonus to Passive Defense is granted once the caster achieves 5 successes on an extended Sorcery roll. The effects of this ritual last for the duration of one scene or the remainder of combat.

While the Shield of Dykannon is active, the caster may attempt to expand the protection to targets within a 10-foot radius sphere. As a Reflexive action, the caster may attempt a Sorcery roll to expand the protection to nearby targets. The caster must achieve 5 successes in a single roll to activate this protection. If successful, targeted objects and beings within the Shield of Dykannon also gain the benefit of +6 Passive Defense while within it. This effect may be deactivated as a Reflexive action at will of the caster. Otherwise, it will remain until the ritual expires.

While protecting others, if an attack penetrates the Shield of Dykannon, the excess successes against living targets result as damage against the caster of the ritual rather than the target. Damage from an area effect attacks is only applied against the Shield of Dykannon once, regardless of the number of protected targets within the sphere.

If a recipient leaves the area of the ritual, the protection granted immediately ends. Re-entering the ritual area will reinstate the bonus to Passive Defense. The ritual does not prevent others from entering the protected area but does not grant protection to targets that were not originally designated when the expanded protection was activated.

Enchantment: Extra Sense (+2 Enchantment), Power: Force Field 3 (+6 Enchantment), Increased Area of Effect - Radius (+4 Enchantment)

Drawback: Damage Proxy - Full (-4 Enchantment)

Which Do You Guys Like Better?

I am making up some Style Chips for Gen Con to use and to give to players and such.

Which design do you like better?

I am leaning toward the first one. I think it looks more professional. The 2nd has larger, bolder text and is easier to read.

The back of the chip will have this design in either case.

Here is the other chip I plan to do.

Feedback is welcome.

Next Week - The Dragon's Demand Continues

You will level to 5th next week after the end of our current fight.

You will also complete the portion of the adventure that awards you the 2nd chronicle sheet. If you are assigning the chronicle to a different character (because you want to or need to) the sheet is for characters 3rd to 5th. Please let me know which character you plan to assign it to so that I can have sheets ready ahead of time.

Wall of Light Spell

WALL OF LIGHT

School evocation [light]; Level druid 5, sorcerer/wizard 5
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M/DF (a chip of mica)
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect 10-ft.-high vertical sheet of light up to 5 ft. long/level
Duration 1 minute/level (D)
Saving Throw Fortitude partial, see text; Spell Resistance yes

An immobile, blinding curtain of white light that blocks line of sight springs into existence. The
wall sheds bright light to a range of 60 feet in all directions. A creature adjacent to the wall is
blinded as long as it remains adjacent plus an additional 1d4 rounds thereafter—closing its eyes
or succeeding at a Fortitude save negates the effect for 1 round. A creature that passes through the
wall is automatically blinded, even if its eyes are closed. A creature from the Plane of Shadow gains
1d4 negative levels each round it spends within 5 feet of the wall (Fortitude negates). Passing through
the wall imposes a –4 penalty on the save for that round. Twenty-four hours after gaining these
negative levels, the subject must attempt a new Fortitude saving throw for each negative level. If a
save succeeds, 1 negative level is removed. If it fails, the negative level becomes permanent. Wall of light can be made permanent with permanency (with a minimum caster level of 13th and cost of 11,000 gp).

Next Week - More Dragon's Demand

We will continue with The Dragon's Demand next week. You should have a 5th level version of your character ready as you should level up during the exploration of Tula Belhaim's tomb. You will receive the next PFS chronicle when you complete the exploration of the tomb.

So as not to forget her, you have earned a companion for the rest of the adventure; Maffei, the shea rogue. Here is her stat block. She is currently suffering from 3 negative levels. I will let you guys play her with the caveat that I might overrule actions that seem out of character. She is grateful to the party but has not yet formed any strong bonds. She can fill the role of rogue since Steve will likely miss most of the rest of this adventure.

We are not expecting Steve for the next 4 weeks. Is there anyone else that will not be there tonight?

The Dragon's Demand Continues Next Week

We accomplished enough last night for the characters to gain a level. You should be 4th level for our next session. Each character earned a share of the agreed 5000 gp payment - 714 gp, 2 sp and 8 cp.

The Wand of Lightning Bolt with 3 charges was not included in the auction lots. The party may keep this.

The cataloged items will be sold at auction in 1 month's time. I plan to assume that you have downtime until then unless you want to seek out further adventure while you wait. The PCs will able to bid on items. The baroness was so pleased with the party's work that she further agrees to pay up to half of the price of any items won up to a total of 7500 gp.

AUCTION LOTS

Lot 1  - Exotic birds (5 songbirds) - Starting Bid: 50 gp
Lot 2 - Kitchen lot (silverware and expensive dinnerware) - Starting Bid: 100 gp
Lot 3 - Parlor lot (globe of Golarion cradled in a polished mahogany stand, sextants, astrolabes, and paintings of unearthly landscapes) - Starting Bid: 300 gp
Lot 4 - Dining room lot (long oak table, ornately carved oak chairs. 4 large, framed painting of desert landscapes) - Starting Bid: 200 gp
Lot 5 - Library lot (600+ books) - Starting Bid: 400 gp
Lot 6 - Stuffed grizzly bear - Starting Bid: 60 gp
Lot 7 - Book of extended summoning - Starting Bid: 550 gp
Lot 8 - Flesh golem manual - Starting Bid: 2,000 gp
Lot 9 - Manual of war - Starting Bid: 1,500 gp
Lot 10 - Assorted potions (5 potions - oil of keen edge, potion of undetectable alignment, potion of protection from acid and potion of protection from fire) - Starting Bid: 660 gp
Lot 11 - Assorted scrolls (4 scrolls - a scroll of campfire wall, a scroll of excruciating deformation, a scroll of haunting mists, and a scroll of magic circle against chaos) - Starting Bid: 255 gp
Lot 12 - Hunclay’s spellbooks (6 spell books - All 0 level, 25 1st-level, 22 2nd-level, 17 3rd-level, 13 4th-level, and 11 5th-level spells) - Starting Bid: 4,000 gp
Lot 13 - Bedroom lot (Fine clothing) - Starting Bid: 440 gp
Lot 14 - Observatory lot (50 rare star charts, an exquisite platinum astrolabe, six rare astronomy tomes and two handheld telescopes) - Starting Bid: 1,000 gp
Lot 15 - Storage lot (wine and spell components) - Starting Bid: 500 gp
Lot 16 - Clockwork lab lot (tools and clockwork resources) - Starting Bid: 1,000 gp
Lot 17 - Summoning journal - Starting Bid: 1,000 gp
Lot 18 - Rare book lot (darkwood case, 4 astronomy tomes and a copy of Secrets of the Dreaming Dark) - Starting Bid: 1,100 gp
Lot 19 - Dust of Darkness (3 bags) - Starting Bid: 450 gp
Lot 20 - Mithral scroll tube (scroll of permanency) - Starting Bid: 300 gp
Lot 21 - Manor home and lands - Starting Bid: 2,500 gp

The auction will work as follows:

Step 1: The auctioneer names the relevant lot and states the opening bid.

Step 2: Determine which bidders other than the PCs are interested on the item.

Step 3: The interested PC gets to make the first bid. All bids must be made in multiples of the listed opening bid. The PC attempts a single Bluff or Intimidate check. For each multiple by which the PC exceeds the opening bid, the PC gains a +2 bonus on the check. Allies cannot aid another on this check. Any competing bidder whose outbid DC is equal to or lower than the result of this check is driven off. If the PC’s bid equals or exceeds the listed winning bid, all the NPC bidders immediately concede. If any NPC bidders remain, proceed to Step 4; if not, proceed to Step 5.

Step 4: The competing bidders place their bids, causing the current bid for the lot to increase by an amount equal to the lot’s starting bid. Control returns to the bidding PC—return to Step 3 if the PC wishes to make a new bid. If not, a remaining NPC bidder wins the lot.

Step 5: Once the PC has outbid the other bidders or bids above the lot’s winning bid, she wins the lot and must pay the final price. Proceed to the next lot.

The Dragon's Demand - Where We Left Off

I was rereading the adventure and determined that we have already started into Chapter 2.

The party was hired by Lady Origena to investigate the wizard, Hunclay's, manor house and make sure that it is safe for clerks to catalog his belongings. These are to be sold at auction and the proceeds are to be sent to his only living relative, a cousin in Yanmass.

The party is being paid a flat 5000 GP fee to perform this task. Per the contract that you have signed, you are not supposed to take anything and are supposed to leave Hunclay’s property as undamaged as possible. If you manage to learn anything about any strange objects or magic items found within, you have instructions to leave notes near the objects for the clerks to read once exploration of the manor is complete.

To date you have explore the main floor, the second floor and the observatory. Only the cellar remains unexplored. You found a servant named Mathezic barricaded in his room. He was afraid and once he learned that his master was dead, he told about his employment of the kobolds. I am a bit fuzzy on what else you may have learned. If necessary we can re-play that encounter to make sure we are all clear on what you learned.

You have disabled or set off several traps including a create pit trap, a bear summoning bearskin rug and a shocking chair attached to the telescope in the observatory. You also had a combat with a homunculus in the observatory.

I can give a room by room recap at the start of the game to refresh everyone's memories.

Next Week - The Dragon's Demand

I plan to continue running the Dragon's Demand next week. I would like to knock this out before Gen Con if possible.

Where we left off, we were about to start the 2nd piece of the adventure. We are playing in campaign mode but assigning credit to PFS characters. The following are the characters that folks assigned credit to for the first part:

Bruce - 8566-13 Alowishious VanFasticore
Dave - 14340-13 Zandru Stukov
Randy - 14370-8 ???
David - 18517-16 Vicky Nelson
Kelly - 18518-8 Louisa May Alcot
Alan - 18524-6 Trance
Steve - 14366-6 Reaper (will need to assign parts 2 and 3 to a different character)

I do not recall the actual characters that everyone was playing. Please try to locate them before next week. Whatever you are playing, the characters should be 3rd level.

Spell-like Abilities

Per our discussion from Last Tuesday, here is what the Core Rulebook has to say about spell-like abilities.

The upshot, they provoke attacks of opportunity, cannot be counterspelled and do not have components of any kind.

CRB p. 186
Using a spell-like ability works like casting a spell in that it requires concentration and provokes attacks of opportunity. Spell-like abilities can be disrupted. If your concentration is broken, the attempt to use the ability fails, but the attempt counts as if you had used the ability. The casting time of a spell-like ability is 1 standard action, unless the ability description notes otherwise.
Using a Spell-Like Ability on the Defensive: You may attempt to use a spell-like ability on the defensive, just as with casting a spell. If the concentration check (DC 15 + double the spell’s level) fails, you can’t use the ability, but the attempt counts as if you had used the ability.

CRB p. 221
Spell-Like Abilities: Usually, a spell-like ability works just like the spell of that name. A spell-like ability has no verbal, somatic, or material component, nor does it require a focus. The user activates it mentally. Armor never affects a spell-like ability’s use, even if the ability resembles an arcane spell with a somatic component.

A spell-like ability has a casting time of 1 standard action unless noted otherwise in the ability or spell description. In all other ways, a spell-like ability functions just like a spell.

Spell-like abilities are subject to spell resistance and dispel magic. They do not function in areas where magic is suppressed or negated. Spell-like abilities cannot be used to counterspell, nor can they be counterspelled.

If a character class grants a spell-like ability that is not based on an actual spell, the ability’s effective spell level is equal to the highest-level class spell the character can cast, and is cast at the class level the ability is gained.

CRB p. 554

Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): Spell-like abilities, as the name implies, are magical abilities that are very much like spells. Spell-like abilities are subject to spell resistance and dispel magic. They do not function in areas where magic is suppressed or negated (such as an antimagic field). Spell-like abilities can be dispelled, but they cannot be counterspelled or used to counterspell.

Terrrain Crate Kickstarter

I backed this at the 3 crate level: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1744629938/terraincrate-plastic-affordable-fantasy-terrain/description

Does anyone wish to pay for any add-ons? I will likely be getting the Sci-fi stuff, the torture camber and the Dark Wizard's Tower as add-ons. (I already have the Dungeon Saga pieces.) The product seems to be reasonably priced for what you get. It will just take a year to get.

Next Week

What do folks want to play next week? Let's assume PFS. What tier; 1-5, 3-7, 5-9, 7-11? Regular or Core?

I know that we will not have Dave for sure. Is anyone else planning to miss the session?

Quest for my 5th Star

Last night's scenario marked my 150th table credit for PFS. That is the first requirement for becoming a 5-star GM. The other is to run 10 specials. So far I have 1 under my belt. That means I need 9 more.

I have 5 of the specials that I can run. The problem is that some/most of you have already played them.

I would like to propose that we play the following in Core (once we have appropriate characters):

6-98 Serpent's Rise - tier 6-8 (played with 7th level pregen - 6 player max)
7-98 Serpents' Ire - tier 7-9 (played with 8th level pregen - 6 player max)

Ruins of Bonekeep - Level One: The Silent Grave - Tier 3-7
Ruins of Bonekeep - Level Two: Maze of the Mind Slave - Tier 3-7
Ruins of Bonekeep - Level Three: The Wakening Tomb - Tier 5-9

The Bonekeep scenarios can be tough but the party does have the option to "tap out" early if they want. They also have a potential for greater rewards.

This does not quite get me there but it would get me considerably closer.

Next Week - PFS #8-13 - What Sleeps in Stone

Next week I will plan to run PFS #8-13 - What Sleeps in Stone. This is Tier 7-11.

The character choices for those player we expect are:

Bruce - Samurai 8, Ninja 9, Magus 9, Inquisitor 11, Gunslinger 7
Dave - Cavalier 8, Ranger (2)/Fighter (5), Figther (4)/Bard (2)/Dragon Disciple (4). Oracle 10, Sorcerer 7
David - Fighter(8)/Ranger(1)/Barbarian(1), Alchemist 9, Oracle 7, Summoner 8
Kelly - Barbarian (1)/Sorcerer (6), Paladin (8)/Bard (1)
Alan - Cleric 11, Summoner 8, Ranger/Rogue 7, Paladin 7
Randy - Cavalier 9, Skald 8

Based upon the character mix, it looks like we can play either sub-tier.

Paizo PFS Player Survey

Please take a few minutes to complete the PFS player survey located in the following post: http://paizo.com/paizo/blog/v5748dyo5ljry?OPC-Log-3-Desnus-4717

After you complete the survey, you will get a link to a boon. It is good for a replay (similar to GM Star replays) of an adventure you have previously played or received GM credit for.

Tuesday 5/16

I have a job out of state and I may not be back til the following Wednesday.  It's unlikely that I'll be there on the 16th.  If I do get back before Wednesday, I may Skype in... but maybe not.

Dont plan on Dave!

Posted Current PFS Tracking Sheet.

I have uploaded our PFS tracking sheet. The document is located at https://sites.google.com/site/zombiehomepage/Home/zombie-s-d-d-pathfinder-page/Adventure%20tracking%20Grouped.xlsx.

Please take a few moments to make sure that this information reflects your character records. Also, please provide any characters details that I may be missing (names, classes, faction). Please let me know in person or as a comment on the blog of any updates that need to be made. If you have additional characters that are not included on the list, please let me know and I will add them.

Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier

The changes to the Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier happened almost a year ago. We were just not in the know.

After reading the information, it makes sense that the item was changed. It was way under priced as originally published.

All that said, if you have one on a PFS character, you may sell it back for a full refund or you can keep it as it is now.

What Are Your PFS Character Numbers from Last Night?

What characters did everyone play last night? I need them to track on our spreadsheet and to report the session for Randy. Also need to know which character Randy wants to apply credit toward.

I played 1420-21 - Ho Lee - Grand Lodge

4/18 Game

Randy has said:

Venture Captain Ambrus Valsin, is requesting the assistance of stealthy and subtle Pathfinders with an investigative bent and a knowledge of alchemy for an urgent mission in the port town of Diobel. Pathfinders should muster at the port of Absalom in six days. Look for the Sixwing Drake, captained by Zarah Zendrani.

I'd like to play my skald again, and I can respec her into alchemist or investigator.  Unless someone has an alchemist or investigator to play...?

Who Did You Play Last Night?

I need the PFS# for the characters that were played last night.

My best guesses are:

Alan - 18524-8 - Keller
Kelly - 18518-15 - Glaucon
Dave - 14340-16 - Inga Elfendottr
Randy - 14370-12 - Jenna
Bruce - 8566-20 - Smelvyn

Please let me know for so that I can report the session.

Next week, Randy will be running #7-10 - The Consortium Compact. Everyone should have a character they can play. It is tier 1-2. The only question that remains is whether we should plan it as Core or regular PFS?

This is also the symbol on Lonestar's armor on the left breast.

What does this mean?

I was going over my session credits and noticed this "GM ranking: +2"
What does this mean?  I'm not a 2 star GM.

Next Week

It looks like Steve will not be there and there is a possibility that David may miss as well. I am OK running the end of the scenario we started this week done one player. I am not certain about doing that missing two players.

18518-6 - Dolgrin
14370-9 - Meatwood Flack
14366-4 - KrankKrank!!
14340-9 - Effluvia Toodlenoggins
8566-13 - Alowishious VanFasticore

Should I assume that Alan and David are playing new characters? If not which characters do you plan to assign this to?

18517-17
18524-12

I think I will assign it to:

1420-15- Narthax but may choose 1420-8 - Myson instead.

If we only have 5 players, what do folks want to play? I can run a low tier (1-5) scenario. Alan requested a low tier adventure to help build up some characters. He currently has none in the 3rd to 5th level range.

If you want to play Brimstone, I would welcome that as well.

Open to other realistic suggestions as well.

Item for Phook

Hey Dave - When Ho Lee gets a chance, he will look to get a set of these for Phook.

Tusk Blades: These metal caps must be specially fitted to a creature’s horns or tusks; a blade reminiscent of a sword or axe head projects from each cap. If the creature makes a gore attack (including as part of a powerful charge), the attack deals both piercing and slashing damage, and has a critical threat range of 19–20 (this range can be increased by other effects). Tusk blades can be enhanced as melee weapons; the enhancement is applied to the creature’s gore attack. Cost 50 GP, Weight 10 Lbs.

I would assume to make them magical, they would need to start as masterwork. That would up the cost to 350 GP. I assume that this is the cost for a set. Adding enhancements would be made to the set and not each individual tusk blade.

Post Session Stuff and Next Week

I believe that this is the proper reporting information for last night’s game:

18524-6 - Trance (Dead)
18518-7 - Elise (Dead)
14370-9 - Meatwood Flack
14366-4 - KrankKrank!!
14340-12 - Thrakorzor
8566-13 - Alowishious VanFasticore
1420-20 - Sneedle

Before I mark either Alan or Kelly’s characters as dead, is there any plan through Prestige or gold to bring either of them back? If it is a factor, this chronicle will grant 1300 GP to each surviving character.

One last piece of business - closing the rift to the negative energy plane.

To close the rift, you need to succeed at 3 DC16 checks. The possible skills for these checks are Knowledge (arcana, planes or religion), Linguistics, Perform (oratory), Spellcraft, and Use Magic Device. Each PC can attempt a single skill check. Expending an ability that releases positive energy, such as cure spells and channeling, grants a bonus on a single check. For spells, the bonus is equal to the level of the spell; for channeled positive energy, the bonus is equal to the number of dice rolled. Every 5 points by which a character exceeds the check’s DC, the PCs earn an additional success.

If the four remaining characters can accomplish this task, that will earn you the 2nd PP.

Next week, I will plan to run 7-27 Beyond Azlant Ridge. It is another tier 3-7 scenario. We could play it in the 3-4 sub-tier but Alan would have to play a pregen as I killed his last two characters in that range. If we play the 6-7 sub-tier this is what the character choices look like:

  • Randy - 5th level barbarian
  • Alan - 7th level paladin or ranger/rogue
  • Kelly - 7th level barbarian/sorcerer or 6th level rogue/sorcerer
  • David - 7th level oracle, 6th level shaman or 6th level arcanist
  • Steve - 6th level slayer or 5th level rogue/barbarian
  • Dave - 7th level ranger/fighter, 7th level sorcerer, 6th level rogue, 5th level Arcanist or 5th level barbarian/cleric/fighter
  • Bruce - 7th level gunslinger, 6th level summoner, 6th level arcanist/bard, 6th level witch or 5th level cleric/barbarian

Tomorrow

Are we expecting everyone except for David tomorrow night?

I plan to run an evergreen PFS adventure that is tier 3-7. It is #8-07 From the Tome of Righteous Repose. Elements of the adventure change so that it will be different for each run. You may play this one multiple times but only once with the same character. I expect that you can play it 3 times with everything being fresh but there are enough elements that many more plays could be had.

It looks like everyone has a character within the low, 3-4 tier. Randy has a fighter, Alan has a summoner, Steve has a rogue (shocking really), Kelly has a couple of cleric and a fighter/bard, Dave and Bruce have a bunch of choices.

Starfinder Mini Preview

Some previews of new ships and some of the race minis. They are a little hard to see but they have the promise of cool.

Shackled Hut finish

We will finish Shackled Hut next Tuesday.  Pick a PFS character to assign your chronicle!  The level range is 5-7.  There is a boon on all the RoW sheets that stacks.

There are 2 major encounters left, and maybe half a dozen fiddly ones.  Considering our collective attention span, it wouldnt surprise me to have it take all night.  We should still have something else on deck.  Bruce said he had a character generator link for Cthulhu 7e.  We should have characters ready.  I volunteer Kelly to play a Hobo.

Strange Aeons Treasure

Still cannot find my printed character sheet for Strange Aeons. I do have my Hero Lab file and he is at 4th level.

Does anyone have our current money total for Strange Aeons? I have 635 gp, 8 sp and 5 cp on my electronic sheet. Does that sound right? I know that we had a list of treasure we were planning to sell when we got to town. I believe that Bruce said that has not happened yet and that we have not yet had a chance to shop.

Reign of Winter Continues 3/7/17

We are planning for Dave to continue Reign of Winter next week. We are starting the session with a combat.

The following week, 3/14/17, we will be missing Alan and Steve for sure. That night is also Randy's birthday. Anyone else not planning to make it?

Any requests as to what to play with a smaller group? The group would be small enough to play Shadows of Brimstone. I could also get a PFS scenario together.

Tomorrow: Reign of Winter

Next Week's Attendance

We know that Steve will be missing next week because of his union meeting. Will anyone not be in attendance due to it being Valentine's Day?

Trying to determine if I should plan to run Black Stump or something else if we are short players.

Black Stump Campaign Continues

I plan to run tomorrow and want to do a little planning.

Are we expecting everyone tomorrow?

What is the game plan for your characters?

Do you want to explore the box? If so, do you plan to investigate any of the barred doors? There are six of them:

1) Twilight City
2) Icy Landscape
3) Fiery Landscape
4) Lush Forest
5) Chaotic Space
6) Giant City

Do you want to ignore the box for now and continue to explore the caves?

More Black Stump or Reign of Winter?

Gifts from Pocman the Great

Here is my first pass at the item that the party received from Pocman. You may not know all of these details yet but you will find out soon enough.

The tea set also includes 10 doses of tea and 10 tinder twigs. The bow Randy received is a masterwork darkwood composite longbow of strength with a bonus equal to his strength bonus. The darkwood bow is currently strung with the bow string but it can be applied to any bow or crossbow.

Quilt of Useful Items

SOURCE Keith / Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook p.528
PRICE 14,000 GP
SLOT none
CL 9th
WEIGHT 3 lb.
AURA moderate transmutation

This appears to be an unremarkable patch-work quilt, providing the benefits of a winter blanket. A character who handles it notes that it is adorned with special small cloth patches of various shapes. Only the handler of the quilt can recognize the patches for what items they become, and detach them. One patch can be detached each round. Detaching a patch causes it to become an actual item, as indicated below.

A newly created quilt of useful items always has two each of the following patches:

• Dagger
• Bullseye lantern (full and lit)
• Mirror (a highly polished 2-foot-by-4-foot steel mirror)
• Pole (10-foot length)
• Hempen rope (50-foot coil)
• Sack

In addition, this quilt has 16 additional patches.

1 - Door, iron (up to 10 ft. wide and 10 ft. high and barred on one side—must be placed upright, attaches and hinges itself )
1 - Gems, 10 (100 gp value each)
2 - Ladder, wooden (24 ft. long)
2 - Mule (with saddle bags)
2 - Pit, open (10 ft. by 10 ft. by 10 ft.)
1 - Potion of cure serious wounds
2 - Rowboat (12 ft. long)
2 - Minor scroll of one randomly determined spell
2 - War dogs, pair (treat as riding dogs)

1 - Window (2 ft. by 4 ft., up to 2 ft. deep)

Once removed, a patch cannot be replaced.

Alchemist’s Tea Set (Healing)

SOURCE Keith
PRICE 39,000 GP
SLOT none
CL 5th
WEIGHT 10 lb.
AURA faint conjuration

This magic device comes in a leather case containing an intricate metal and glass teapot, a metal mesh infuser on a chain, 8 metal and porcelain cups, a ceramic airtight canister which holds up to 10 doses of dry tea, and a waterproof metal box which holds up to 10 tinder twigs. Water is poured in the top of the pot and tea from the canister is placed in the infuser and inserted into the teapot. The device is lit at the bottom using a tinder twig. The brewing process requires 10 minutes. After such time, and up to 30 minutes later, the tea may be poured from the alchemist’s teapot into one of the companion cups.

Drinking tea from the alchemist’s tea set is soothing and beneficial. Consuming a cup of tea brewed by the alchemist’s tea set benefits the drinker as if both a cure light wounds (1d8+5) and a lesser restoration had been cast upon him. Tea cannot be poured from its cup or saved for later use; it must be drunk within 30 minutes of being brewed or the tea loses any magical effects. The effects take place immediately after consumption of the cup’s contents.

Each use of the alchemist’s tea set makes 8 cups of tea and requires ½ gallon of water (a full waterskin) and one dose of dry tea.

CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Brew Potion, Craft Wondrous Item, cure light wounds, lesser restoration; Cost 19,500 gp

Healer’s Satchel (First Aid)

SOURCE Pathfinder Player Companion: Healer’s Handbook p. 28
PRICE Specialized 3,000 GP
SLOT none
CL 3rd
WEIGHT 1 lb.
AURA faint conjuration

This well-worn physician’s bag can be slung over one shoulder or carried easily in one hand. It contains a collection of continually renewing bandages, medicines, and herbs. This acts as a healer’s kit, except spent uses are renewed every day, so the wielder can expend up to 10 uses in any 24-hour period. When the wielder expends 2 uses from a healer’s satchel to treat deadly wounds with the Heal skill, she adds her Wisdom bonus to the amount of hit points restored, and if she exceeds the DC by 5 or more, she adds 2 × her Wisdom bonus to the amount restored. The wielder also gains a +4 circumstance bonus on Heal checks when she expends uses of the healer’s satchel to treat poisons and provide first aid (this does not stack with the normal +2 circumstance bonus granted for using a healer’s kit).

In addition to the benefits described above, a specialized healer’s satchel comes with enchantments and equipment to further aid in certain medical situations.

First Aid: The specialized healer’s satchel contains self-binding tourniquets, enchanted smelling salts, and other magical tools to help a dying patient recover. The wielder can expend two uses of the specialized healer’s satchel when performing first aid to heal a character at negative hit points to 0 hit points with a successful DC 20 Heal check.

CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, cure light wounds, lesser restoration, creator must have 5 ranks in Heal skill; Cost 1,500 gp

Bowstring of Endless Ammunition

SOURCE Keith / Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Equipment p. 141
PRICE 36,000 GP
SLOT none (must be strung on a bow)
CL 9th
WEIGHT -
AURA moderate conjuration

While this magic bowstring is strung to a bow or crossbow, it grants the weapon the endless ammunition special ability. The bow does not need be magic to gain this benefit. Benefits granted by the bowstring of endless ammunition does count as a +2 bonus toward the +10 maximum bonus for a magic weapon.

Endless Ammunition

Only bows and crossbows can be made into endless ammunition weapons—firearms and other projectile weapons cannot. Each time an endless ammunition weapon is nocked, a single nonmagical arrow or bolt is spontaneously created by the magic, so the weapon’s wielder never needs to load the weapon with ammunition.

If the wielder attempts to load the weapon with other ammunition, the created arrow or bolt immediately vanishes and the wielder can load the weapon as normal. This ability does not reduce the amount of time required to load or fire the weapon. The created arrow or bolt vanishes if removed from the weapon; it persists only if fired. Unlike normal bow and crossbow ammunition, these arrows and bolts are always destroyed when fired.

CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, Craft Magic Arms and Armor, minor creation; Cost 18,000 gp

Next Week

The plan for next week is for Bruce to finish #4-04 - King of the Storval Stairs at the start and Dave will run Reign of Winter. We did not have the right mix of players to accomplish this yesterday.

Randy and David - I ran something new this week which will require you to make a new, non-PFS Pathfinder character. I will explain the details when I see you next. For now, pick a name, a Core book race other than gnome, and a profession. You live in a inland town of 800-1000 people called Black Stump. We already have a blacksmith, a carpenter, a scribe, a tailor and a teacher in the group.
