Modern Age Super Heroes play test setting ideas

I have been brainstorming some ideas for a setting for my Ubiquity Supers system (working tile Modern Age Super Heroes) play test on Tuesdays.

As discussed, this would be a near future, Earth setting. Here are some things I am thinking:

The year: 2050

Norther California, Southern California and Sub-Merica - submerged southwest coast of modern California. Enclosed domes and cluster of spires jutting from the Pacific Ocean. Connected to main land via air, boat and hyper tubes. Possibly do something similar with East Coast, Florida and Louisiana. Not sure if I want to do flooding or sunk into the ocean as the cause.

Luna City and Space Port - Established city and space port on the moon. Highly industrial.

Olympus Space Station - Permanent station acting as a hub for person, product and materials transport to Mars colony, Vulcan Ore Processing, Luna City and Earth. Jointly run by charter nations.

Space Centers located in North America, Europe and Asia.

Vulcan Ore Processing Station

Mars Colony and Phobos Space Port- Mining and hydroponic agriculture.

Space Force - International police and security for space ports, stations and colonies. Short range defense craft on stations. Modified conventional weaponry on colonies and space ports.

Great Wall of North America - Should we do this? Do not want to get too political.

Humanity is at a division point. Advances in technology have allowed for "improvements" and "enhancements" to the human form. Besides medical prosthesis and repair, structural implants have increased strength and durability of many of the populace. Corrective vision and hearing implants are common as are their cosmetic and convenience counterparts like implanted communications devices and bio security chips. Humans with multiple or extreme implants are commonly referred to as "Mods".

Despite the many advantages of these enhancements, there is a significant portion of the population that shuns these technologies, purposely keeping their bodies and souls "pure". This sect of humanity have adopted the title "True Human".

Any thoughts? Does this sound like the setting we had discussed?

As I said previously, I am likely a bit away from pulling the trigger on this. Likely looking to start in September. I want to test character creation, including gadgets, powers, spells, etc.  as well as the combat, streamlined equipment and world interaction stuff.

  1. You can build The Wall in your world for whatever reason fits your story - look, you already decided on Space Force.

I like the idea of a partially built wall that has since been repurposed - maybe now it's squatter housing, thus exacerbating problems with immigrants? Maybe gangs took it over? That kind of thing.

    1. We can change the name of "Space Force" as well. Not married to that. I have some wall ideas.

  2. did you see the film Monsters by Gareth Edwards who did The Last Jedi?

It had a wall, not to keep out Mexicans, but to keep out giant Cthulhu-ish aliens. You can have a wall if you want a wall.

p.s. it was a good movie.

  3. The space station is jointly operated, but are the colonies soverign?

You could go with something denoting the non-aligned nature of the Space police in their name, something like ISAF (Independent Space Armed Forces)

Plot twist, wall actually wasn't political, it was a desperate attempt to save vital lowland farming regions from flooding when California sank, but the water rose too high and now a majority of the wall lays underwater, with portions of the wall that extended beyond the flooded zones still standing.

    1. I have some ideas regarding the wall.

I only asked if we should do it as I wanted to make sure I was not stepping on any feelings or political hot buttons with the players. I want it to be fun and filled with challenges but I do not want it to be upsetting.

    2. How about Sol System Space Authority (SSSA) as the body that governs and administrates things and Sol System Security Force (SSSF) as the actual soldier/security force? Might even drop the Sol or System from the names.

    3. I.e. ISA and ISF (Intrasolar Space Authority/Force)

  4. Or to make the first 'S' an 'I' for Intrasolar?
