Hardness on creatures

For future reference:

James Jacobs posted the following in this thread - http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2rez1?Robot-Hardness-Questions

Correct; robots aren't objects and thus take full damage from energy attacks. Their hardness reduces damage done by 10 (or whatever), regardless of if it's energy damage or force damage or slashing/piercing/bludgeoning damage or whatever. That's why it's not DR (which doesn't touch energy damage) or energy resistance (which doesn't touch slashing/bludgeoning/piercing damage).

Robots are not objects. As such, you do not halve damage to them from ranged attacks.
Having hardness does NOT mean you're an object, nor do all objects have hardness.

  1. Not a criticism of GMing choices. Just a clarification for the future. This is how I will handle it from now on.

Hardness 10 means subtract 10 from all damage sources regardless of type (unless they by-pass hardness).

  2. Ha, the way Bruce improvised the electricity damage is how it's supposed to work for all energy types! So that aspect of it wouldnt have changed anyway. The laser pistol and shock arrows were still useless.

    1. Correct, against the robot. The electricity would have worked against the swarm while it occupied a host. It was vulnerable and would have taken full damage (+50%) as well as the host. The laser would not have done much other than to the hungry fleshes (fire stopped their regeneration).

    2. What makes you think the swarm would take damage while in a host, technically it's not a swarm till it comes out.

And laser is not fire, or did I miss something.

    3. It was in the creature description. I looked at the scenario today to see if there was anything we had missed to learn for the next time. The swarm and host were supposed to take half damage each from the attacks until Pendelton was incompasitated or killed. Unless the attack was electricity, in which case it takes full damage.

      The laser does fire damage.
